Why SMS Compliance Matters
SMS marketing is subject to strict regulations in the United States (TCPA), Canada (CASL), and other jurisdictions. Non-compliance can result in significant fines — up to $1,500 per unsolicited text message under TCPA. Cavaco is built to help you stay compliant.

SMS compliance settings including opt-out handling and quiet hours are configured in Settings > Channels.
TCPA Requirements
- Prior express written consent — You must have written consent before sending marketing SMS
- Identification — Every message must identify your brand
- Opt-out instructions — Include "Reply STOP to unsubscribe" in your first message
- Honor opt-outs immediately — Process STOP requests within 10 business days (Cavaco does this instantly)
- Quiet hours — Do not send between 9 PM and 8 AM in the recipient's local time zone
Cavaco's Built-In Compliance Features
Cavaco automatically handles STOP/HELP/UNSUBSCRIBE keywords, enforces quiet hours based on the recipient's time zone, suppresses contacts who have opted out, and maintains consent records. These protections are active by default and cannot be overridden.
10DLC Registration
If you send SMS in the United States, your brand and campaigns must be registered under the 10DLC (10-Digit Long Code) system. Cavaco guides you through the registration process during SMS channel setup in Settings > Channels > SMS.
