Two Types of Segments
Cavaco supports two types of audience segments, each suited to different use cases. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right approach for each campaign.

The Segments page shows both dynamic and static segments with their current contact counts.
Dynamic Segments
Dynamic segments are defined by rules that Cavaco evaluates continuously. The segment membership updates automatically as contacts meet or no longer meet the criteria. For example, a "High-Value Customers" segment defined as "lifetime value over $500" will automatically add new customers who reach that threshold and remove any who fall below it.
Best for: Ongoing campaigns, always-on personalization, and any use case where you want the audience to stay current without manual updates.
Static Segments (Lists)
Static segments are fixed lists of contacts. Once a contact is added to a static segment, they stay there until manually removed — regardless of whether their behavior changes.
Best for: One-time broadcast campaigns, imported lists, and event-based targeting (e.g., "everyone who attended our webinar on May 1st").
When to Use Each
Use dynamic segments for most ongoing marketing activities — they stay accurate without maintenance. Use static segments when you need a snapshot of your audience at a specific moment, or when you're working with an externally defined list that doesn't map to behavioral criteria.
