Replacing AI Placeholder Images in Email Templates

Learn how to replace AI-generated placeholder images in your email templates with your own brand assets and product photography.

When you use the Marketing Copilot to generate email templates, it often inserts placeholder images to illustrate the layout. Before sending your campaign, you need to replace these placeholders with your actual brand assets or product photography.

1. Identifying Placeholder Images

Placeholder images are typically grey boxes or generic illustrations inserted by the AI. They are meant to show you where an image should go, but they are not intended for your final send.

2. Replacing an Image

  1. Open the email template in the drag-and-drop editor.
  2. Click directly on the placeholder image you want to replace. This will select the image block and open its settings in the right-hand panel.
  3. In the settings panel, locate the Image Source or Content section.
  4. Click the Replace or Change Image button.

3. Selecting Your Image

A modal will appear giving you several options for selecting a new image:

  • Upload: Upload a new image directly from your computer.
  • Brand Assets: Select an image you previously uploaded to your Brand Assets library (recommended for logos and recurring graphics).
  • Product Catalog: If your store is connected, you can browse and select images directly from your product catalog.
  • Image URL: Paste a direct link to an image hosted elsewhere.

4. Adjusting Image Settings

Once you've selected your new image, you can fine-tune its appearance in the settings panel:

  • Alt Text: Always add descriptive alt text. This is crucial for accessibility and displays if the image fails to load.
  • Link: Add a URL so the image is clickable (e.g., linking a product image to its product page).
  • Width/Height: Adjust the dimensions. We recommend using the "Auto width" setting to ensure the image scales correctly on mobile devices.
  • Alignment: Align the image to the left, center, or right within its block.

5. Reviewing the Layout

After replacing the images, always use the Preview feature to check how the email looks on both desktop and mobile screens. Ensure the new images fit well within the layout and don't distort the design.
