Managing Subscriber Consent and Compliance

Understand how to collect, manage, and honor subscriber consent for email and SMS marketing in compliance with GDPR, CAN-SPAM, and TCPA.

Why Consent Management is Critical

Sending marketing messages to people who haven't explicitly opted in is not just bad practice — it can result in significant legal fines and damage your sender reputation. Cavaco AI is built with compliance at its core.

Email Consent (CAN-SPAM and GDPR)

For email marketing, you need explicit consent from recipients. Cavaco helps you collect this through:

  • Signup Widgets: Popup and embedded forms with clear consent language.
  • Checkout Opt-In: An opt-in checkbox during the checkout process (requires your ecommerce platform integration).

Every email sent through Cavaco automatically includes an unsubscribe link, as required by CAN-SPAM and GDPR.

SMS Consent (TCPA)

SMS consent requirements are stricter than email. The TCPA (Telephone Consumer Protection Act) in the US requires "express written consent" before sending marketing text messages. Cavaco's SMS consent widgets are designed to meet this standard, including the required disclosure language.

The Consent Page

Cavaco provides a hosted consent page that you can link to from your store or social media. This page allows customers to manage their own subscriptions, choosing which channels they want to hear from you on.

Viewing and Auditing Consent Records

For every subscriber in your Cavaco audience, you can view their complete consent history — when they opted in, through which channel, and what consent language was shown to them. Navigate to Audiences > Contacts, select a customer, and view their Consent History tab.
